Access to a quality education is an absolute requirement for success in the 21st century. While the need for education grows, the costs of getting it continue to rise.
In these tough economic times, all types of schools are trying to find the means to continue providing their students with an education that will prepare them for success. Many private schools had to increase tuition and student fees to raise additional funds for supporting their programs. However, this made it even harder for lower-income families to seek a quality education through a private school option.
At Concordia Lutheran High School, where I am an executive director, we strive to make our education available to as many children as possible by providing financial assistance and awards. The voucher program has been a great fit for our school because, like us, it embraces the idea that each family should be able to choose the academic setting that is best for their children. This new opportunity has opened the door for children to join the Concordia family that would not normally have been able to do so.
One family that comes to mind has five children. They longed to send their kids to Concordia, but it was never an option financially. They felt Concordia would provide the right environment along with academic rigor that their children needed for ongoing success.
This year, the school voucher program made it possible for the family to finally pursue the Concordia option for their youngest child. The student has already settled in and is involved in co-curricular activities. He is performing well in classes that his family believes will make a long-term difference for him. Motivated to achieve, he and his family are very pleased that this program has made a long-time family dream a reality at last.
We are so excited to have the voucher program at our school because it is enabling children to build a foundation of outstanding education that will serve as a platform for their success to come.
