My eight-year old adopted daughter recently told me that she wants to be an astronaut when she grows up and that is why she is working so hard in her math classes. This school year has really changed her life as she is now paying much more attention to her studies. She also feels more confident and motivated.
Indiana’s new voucher program has allowed me to enroll my four adopted children, three boys and a girl, into a new school, Our Lady of Hungary in South Bend, Ind. A small school with dedicated teachers and a strong academic program – it provides the right environment for my kids to learn while enjoying their school years.
My kids’ education is my top priority right now. I am the type of parent who always stays in touch with their teachers, I visit their classrooms and I try to help them with their studies as much as possible. I saw my kids struggle in their previous school. They were not challenged enough academically and did not have motivation to perform better. My daughter, my little introvert, felt shy and did not have any friends at school. I knew that it was my responsibility as a parent to change this.
I have always liked Our Lady of Hungary. My older kids went there and I was really impressed with the programs that the school offered. That’s why when my friend told me about Indiana’s new voucher program, Our Lady of Hungary was my family’s top preference. I went to talk to the principal, asked lots of questions, and was surprised how simple the application process was.
The first weeks at the new school were not easy though. My kids were running behind and needed to put a lot of effort into catching up with other students in their classes. But hard work is paying off, and I was very pleased recently to receive their grade reports with all A’s and B’s.
The voucher program has given me an opportunity to find a better learning environment for my children. It also provides thousands of other Indiana families with more educational choices that they did not have before. As parents, we have a responsibility to give our children a high quality education that can help them achieve great things in their lives. Indiana’s voucher program makes it possible.
