I have always told my grandchildren that they can do anything they set their minds to if they just stay focused, and thanks to Indiana’s new school voucher program, I think they are starting to believe me.
After experiencing public schools, charter schools and other private schools, I have finally found a place for my grandchildren to grow and succeed. Ambassador Christian Academy has changed the way that my grandchildren feel about school and their future.
My 7-year-old granddaughter is bubbly, constantly asks questions and sings from the time she wakes up until she goes to sleep. The opposite from her younger sister, my 8-year-old granddaughter is quiet, independent and has a passion for drawing. Their older brother, my 13-year-old grandson, is incredibly smart and is constantly thinking.
Each of my grandchildren had different needs going into Ambassador Christian. The two girls faced teasing at their previous schools and my grandson was bored because he was not challenged enough.
I wanted to provide a better education for my grandchildren, but raising them on my own while also going to school did not leave enough money for me to pay tuition by myself. When I found out about the voucher program, I applied immediately as this was the opportunity I had been waiting for.
Even though it has only been a short time since the children started attending Ambassador Christian, I can already tell a difference. The girls are no longer self-conscious because they are now in an environment that does not tolerate teasing but rather accepts them for who they are. Boredom is no longer an issue for my grandson who is thriving academically. My grandchildren are now held accountable and are encouraged.
I was leery of the voucher program at first because I felt it was just a political statement. However, now that I have experienced it, it doesn’t matter if it was a Republican or a Democrat that brought the program about. I want my grandchildren to have a quality education and the voucher program is giving them just that. When this door opened, I immediately stepped through it and I know more doors will continue to open through their experiences at Ambassador Christian.
This school only wants my grandchildren to succeed and it keeps them grounded while preparing them for an amazing future. Thanks to their encouragement paired with mine, my grandchildren now know the sky is the limit for what they can accomplish.
