For the last couple of years, I have been working really hard to learn to read. My teachers helped me too, but I still didn’t understand. My mom had to teach me a lot at home. Everyday I read with my mom or my dad, but I still wasn’t catching up to the class.
Last year, my parents decided to get a divorce. I was really sad and confused. While my parents divorced, my dad decided to not give my mom any money to take care of us.
Even though my mom would go back over all my work, I was still not getting good spelling or reading grades. Everyday I had to write out my spelling list three times and my grades began to get better, but my mom thought it would be a good idea to get me into a school that had a program I could understand. She enrolled me in Heritage Christian, but she had no money to pay for it and no way to prove that my dad did not give her any money.
My mom read about the voucher program and was so excited that Indiana would help her get me into a different school. She told me that I had a great future ahead of me and she would work really hard to make sure I was learning and understanding so I could see my dream of one day becoming a Blue Angel Pilot come true.
I am happy at my new school because Indiana allowed my mom to pick a new school to help me. I am learning so much more even though the work is harder. They want me to work slower there and get it right the first time. If I make a mistake, they ask me to correct the work over the weekend and return it. My teacher is really nice and she takes a lot of time with me so that I understand my lessons. I have a smaller class than before, and I am not as upset because it is peaceful in my classroom.
Thank you for allowing me to go to a new school so that I can see my dreams come true one day at a time in a smaller class. Thank you for the voucher program!
