Indiana is at the forefront of education reform in the nation! On this page, you can view some of the legislation that has made the Hoosier state a leader in education.
Voucher legislation was first passed in Indiana in 2011. In 2013, the General Assembly voted to expand the voucher program. They expanded the program through two bills:
- House Bill 1001 (the state's budget)
- House Bill 1003 (most recent version of 1003, which includes the expansion of the tax credit scholarship program)
Tax Credit Scholarship Legislation:
The tax credit scholarship program was first passed in 2009. In both 2011 and 2013 the General Assembly voted to expand the program. These programs were created and expanded through the following bills:
Charter Schools Legislation:
In 2013, the General Assembly voted to improve the charter school legislation in Indiana. With the passing of that legislation, Indiana became the most charter school friendly state in the nation.
